Why are children saying "The Pledge of Allegiance"?

One night I was listening to the radio and my mind began to wander. I have no idea why I thought about this, but what I do know is that I became very passionate about it pretty quick. I sat back and remembered having to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. I also remembered how much I hated doing it. The more I thought about it, the more I began to realize how totally inappropriate it is for children to recite this.

Please, think about it. Ask the average 6 year old, "What does it mean to pledge your allegiance?" What do you think they are going to say? Also ask them, "Why should they pledge their allegiance to the flag?"  The word Allegiance means: loyalty or commitment of a subordinate to a superior or of an individual to a group or cause, so please ask yourself "Why are we allowing our children to pledge (swear) their allegiance to anything?"
This is a ritual. Who started this ritual and why  is it mainly geared towards children is the main question we should be asking. Think back, when was the last time you said the pledge of allegiance?
Believe me, you do not have to subject your children to this, it is not mandatory! As a parent YOU have the right to send a note to the school stating that your child will no longer participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jehovah witnesses do it all the time. I remember I wanted to tell my teacher I was one just so I could get out of saying it.
I hope this rant of mine has been enlightening, because the spirits would not let me rest until I posted this. Thank you for reading! Peace
